KeepBasis helps homeowners document the capital improvements that raise a home's cost basis and keep the supporting records ready for the day they sell. Doing that means we hold information about your home and, on the Pro tier, your invoice documents. This policy explains what we collect, how we protect it, and the commitments we make about it.

What we collect

• Account information — your email address and authentication details, handled by our authentication provider.
• Planning data (free tier) — your home address, purchase price and date, filing status, and the improvement ledger you enter (project name, date, amount, category).
• Documents (Pro tier) — invoice images and PDFs you choose to upload, plus the structured data extracted from them.

Our commitments

• We never sell your data. Your information is not sold, rented, or shared for advertising — ever.
• Encrypted at rest.Your data is encrypted at rest, and uploaded documents are isolated per user so one account can never read another's records.
• We collect only what the calculation needs.We minimize what we store and avoid retaining highly sensitive details (such as full card or bank numbers) that aren't needed to document your cost basis.
• At most one email per year. Our only standing outreach is a single annual reminder before the federal filing deadline. We send no marketing email — no promotions, upsells, newsletters, or partner offers — to free or paid users alike.

Your data is yours — no lock-in

You can export a complete archive of your records — your structured ledger plus every original document — at any time, in one click. KeepBasis is meant to be the organizer for your records, not the only copy of them; we encourage you to keep your downloaded archive current. You can delete your account and associated data at any time.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of established providers to operate the service — for hosting, database and encrypted storage, authentication, payment processing, transactional email, and optical character recognition of uploaded invoices. These providers process data only to deliver the service to you and under their own security and privacy obligations. We do not authorize them to use your data for their own purposes.
