These terms govern your use of KeepBasis. By creating an account or using the service, you agree to them. Please read them alongside our Privacy Policy.

Not tax, legal, or accounting advice

KeepBasis is for informational and documentation purposes only. It does not provide tax, legal, or accounting advice and is not a substitute for a CPA or other qualified professional. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of your tax filings. Verify any figures the tool produces with a qualified tax professional before filing.

When the tool classifies an improvement, it references IRS Publication 523 to indicate whether a category generally increases basis. This is informational and does not determine whether your specific cost qualifies — that determination is yours to make, with your tax advisor.

Estimates and projections

Cost-basis totals, future-sale projections, and any potential tax-savings figures are estimates and illustrations, not tax computations. Actual results depend on your income, filing status, exclusion eligibility, sale price, and other factors. Property values and purchase records obtained from third-party data sources may be incomplete or inaccurate, and you are responsible for confirming or correcting them.

Accounts and your content

You are responsible for safeguarding your account credentials and for the data you enter or upload. You retain ownership of your content. You grant us only the limited permission needed to store, process, and display it back to you in order to operate the service. You may export your data or delete your account at any time.

Pro tier and payment

The planning calculator and manual improvement ledger are free. The Pro tier is a one-time purchase of $49 that unlocks uploading and encrypted storage of invoice documents, extraction into your ledger, and the audit-ready export. Payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not receive or store your full card details.

Availability and portability

We aim to keep your records available and exportable for the long term, but KeepBasis is an organizer for your records and not your sole copy. We encourage you to keep a current downloaded archive. If we ever discontinue the service, we will provide advance notice and a final window to export your data.

Disclaimer of warranties and limitation of liability

The service is provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the maximum extent permitted by law, KeepBasis is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages, or for any tax, penalty, or interest arising from your filings. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.
